GateExperience and Skills

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate the following competencies:

  • The intellectual ability to deal with a complex regulatory regime. Education to post graduate level is highly desirable.
  • Experience of developing policy at a high level.
  • A track record of strong management and financial skills to make the most of resources;
  • A track record of delivery in regulation.
  • Excellent analytical skills and strategic vision.
  • An awareness of consumer interests in the field of legal services;
  • Commercial acumen.
  • Excellent oral and written skills;
  • Good political skills and the experience to command the confidence of the BSB and its stakeholders, including the Bar, consumers of barristers’ services, politicians and the senior judiciary;
  • The ability to work closely with others in the team whilst ensuring that the independence of regulation is preserved.
  • Regulatory experience and a good understanding of legal services or a legal qualification will be essential.
  • A commitment to equality and diversity

  • A self-starter, able to provide the leadership needed for the BSB’s staff and work pro-actively to achieve its aims.
