The role
Future challenges
The BSB has published a business plan and strategy for the period 2010-2012, and has carried out important research to provide the evidence base for regulatory change. Reviews of, the Code of Conduct, the Bar Vocational Course (soon to be renamed the Bar Professional Training Course), and pupillage have been completed and now work is underway on Quality Assurance, CPD and the Equality and Diversity Code. In the coming year, the main challenges will be:
- Reviewing the Code of Conduct and, in particular, considering the introduction of new working structures for barristers and their impact on access to justice;
- A new approach to quality assurance mechanisms for the Bar;
- Transition to the Legal Ombudsman complaints arrangements.
- Developing KPIs and management systems to assess the Board’s performance;
- Dealing with the implementation of the Legal Services Act and particularly working with the LSB and OLC;
- Raising the BSB’s profile with barristers and consumers.
